Pimp up your pies with this kitsch caramel-laden recipe for American whoopie pies

Hannah Miles: "I just adore the complete ‘kitschness’ of these pies, with a caramel glaze and piled high with popcorn. They would be absolutely perfect to serve for a movie night at home."

These cool whoopie pies are a retro treat for adults and children alike, perfect for a barbecue or summer party

Hannah Miles: "These pies are a classic chocolate whoopie, just a little bit chillier, and perfect for a barbecue party on a summer’s day. You’ll need to assemble them at the last minute so that the ice cream doesn’t melt. I’ve used vanilla here but you can substitute any flavour you like – why not try chocolate for a double chocolate treat!"

Classic Whoopie

Hannah Miles: "These chocolate and marshmallow pies are a true classic. Also known as ‘Gobs’ or ‘Black and Whites,’ they have a rich chocolate flavour with a creamy marshmallow filling. Sugary sweet and seriously addictive, I promise one bite and you will be hooked! Marshmallow fluff is available in delicatessens and some supermarkets – it is very similar to the creamy white filling you find in the centre of a walnut whip, utterly calorific but quite delicious!"

Dramatic Cake

Let's hope this cake is the only dramatic part of the nuptials, as Eric Lanlard, from ...
Makes an 8 inch lemon cake (you also need one 6 and one 10 inch cake, adjust quantities accordingly)

This cake's made from simple rice crispy cakes. We used a basic chocolate nest recipe, added some toffee popcorn and made half using white chocolate instead of dark chocolate

t's really quick and easy to make, needs no fancy equipment and can be decorated however you fancy. We stuck some star-shaped sequins on pieces of floristry wire, but you could use hearts or letters, or any other shape cut out of shiny coloured paper or foil.

No pud is as glam as a wedding cake. Eric Lanlard from Channel 4 show Glamour Puds shows us his champagne-flavoured take

We used a basic Swiss meringue recipe to create this beautiful and impressive (yet very easy) pavlova

You don't even need any special equipment, just a little time and a good few eggs. We made Fiona Cairns' gorgeous crystalised rose petals to decorate ours, but you can use any combination of fruit, chocolate or sweets to get the look you want. Add a few drops of food colouring to transform the whole thing.

Cake Recipes

Recipes for cake are wonderful testaments to the generations of bakers before us. Most cake recipes have been handed down from great-grandmothers to grandmothers to mothers, and passed between friends and family.
Our collection of cake recipes are the favorites, the ones that are baked for special occasions and birthday parties or when a perfect rich treat is needed to end a great meal. From rich and delicious chocolate cake to spice laden carrot cake, you'll find your favorite here.
Some have frosting recipes with them, others let you choose what type of topping you want for the cake, and others have recipes for different toppings. Each cake recipe is a completely different taste experience, and all are equally delectable. Nothing beats the smell of a cake being baked in the oven. Forget air fresheners, bake a cake for the perfect

Rich Chocolate Layer Cake

Made from a mix, this cake is particularly moist and fudgy, thanks to two secret ingredients (mayonnaise and cocoa). Combine packaged coconut and nuts with creamy chocolate frosting to create the irresistible filling.

This is a wonderfully moist pound cake. I have tried countless recipes, but this one is without a doubt THE BEST!

Cake

Cake is a form of bread or bread-like food. In its modern forms, it is typically a sweet baked dessert. In its oldest forms, cakes were normally fried breads or cheesecakes, and normally had a disk shape. Determining whether a given food should be classified as bread, cake, or pastry can be difficult.
Modern cake, especially layer cakes, normally contain a combination of flour, sugar, eggs, and butter or oil, with some varieties also requiring liquid (typically milk or water) and leavening agents (such as yeast or baking powder). Flavorful ingredients like fruitpurées, nuts, dried or candied fruit, or extracts are often added, and numerous substitutions for the primary ingredients are possible. Cakes are often filled with fruit preserves or dessert sauces (like pastry cream), iced with buttercream or other icings, and decorated with marzipan, piped borders or candied fruit.
Cake is often the dessert of choice for meals at ceremonial occasions, particularly weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. There are countless cake recipes; some are bread-like, some rich and elaborate, and many are centuries old. Cake making is no longer a complicated procedure; while at one time considerable labor went into cake making (particularly the whisking of egg foams), baking equipment and directions have been simplified so that even the most amateur cook may bake a cake.
